StumpTown Kilts (STK) has been in business for 6 years. We spent a year and a half in design and went through over 15 prototypes in order to get things just right. STK has been selling Men’s Modern Kilts since 2011. We went back into design to create our Women’s Modern Kilts in 2012.
What got you started in kilts?
A group of guys got together that wanted to create a better Men’s Kilt. We had all been wearing Kilts for sometime and wanted to improve upon the Modern Kilt. There were things we did not like about the Kilts we were wearing at the time, so we set out to create a Kilt we all wanted to wear.
What is the thing your company does better than anyone else?
Our Kilts are designed to be extremely durable yet very easy to care for. StumpTown Kilts do not require any ironing. Because we use a traditional box pleat and sew the pleats down a quarter of inch on both the inside and outside our Kilts always keep their shape.
Anything else we should know about your company?
Our motto has always been “this is not our Kilt, this is your Kilt”. Since the beginning STK has encouraged others to make their Kilts their own. For both our Men’s and Women’s Kilts we turned to friends, family, and fellow kilt enthusiasts for their input and suggestions, which helped STK create the Kilts we sell today. We encourage people to add extra rivets, patches, attachments, and other accoutrements to their Kilts to make ‘em their own.
