INTERVIEW WITH ANGELA - AKA HighlandHuntress

Where do you live?
Grew up on the gulf coast of Florida, spent 17 years in PDX- recently moved down to Corvallis, OR for education. Next up: Scotland!! Heading to Scotland this August so my hubby and I can both pursue (even more!) education.

What do you do for work?
I’m a professor, actually (I say actually because people often seem to have stereotypes of what professors look or sound like…). I LOVE working with students, and helping people empower their dreams. Education opens so many doors and it’s really a special gift to see someone rockin’ their path, tuning into life in new ways. Plus, lots of my students have become my friends years down the road. I’m super lucky to work with amazing people all over the country. I’m also getting ready to begin a research PhD, working with some international collaborators. I’m a giant nerd, and I LOVE it. There’s nothing on earth I’d rather do than education and research- it’s super fulfilling and pretty much rad as hell.

More importantly, what do you do for fun?
I love my work, but I do love my play something fierce! 😊 I love to play outside with my smokin’ hot hubby of almost 22 years. We love adventures, travel, and new challenges!

What are your hobbies?
I love to run ultramarathons and climb mountains, but I also really enjoy cuddling up with hot cocoa and playing Magic the Gathering with my kids. Recently, my oldest kid taught me to surf—which is really just a prolonged beating from Poseidon! But really, playing outside is always a good day!

Do you have any special talents?
I love this question! So fun fact, I sew a lot of my own clothes because I can’t really find anything that suits my incessant need for ruffles and lacing. I don’t have a working machine so I hand-sew everything, which is tedious but also kind of amazingly meditative! If I’m really stressed and mentally bogged down, I’ll create a new piece and get my stitch on; it’s very Zen. My students tell me my workplace style is a cross between Cruella DeVille and Game of Thrones, which I personally find a complement 😉

How did you come to know STK?
My husband started wearing his first STK and I was totally smitten! I couldn’t wait to sport the ladies’ edition and I have not been disappointed. Every time I wear my STK random people complement the styling so I’d say it’s a hit!

What is your favorite event STK hosts or vends?
What’s an “event”? After the past year of the pandemic, I think walking a block to the grocery store totally counts as an event. Will you come vend the Fred Meyer parking lot?

What is the Favorite Feature on your STK?
Definitely the “fit” of the kilt! It’s one of the most flattering items of clothing I’ve ever owned. Versatile, goes with SO many things in my closet—and never fails to look sharp and put together when worn.

How many Kilts do you own?
One does not “own” a kilt; a kilt is a life partner.

What is your favorite Kilt color?
It’s really tough to beat the black pinstripe because the fabric is just so smooth and delicious! I don’t wear a lot of prints, so I will generally always favor solid colors- the maroon is a really great neutral, but feminine, base and it goes with a lot of tops.

What secret thing do you put in your hidden pocket?
This is where I keep the secrets of the universe. Also, my keys.

What do you carry on your bandoleer (other than attachable pockets)?
Pro tip- I am now part of the “needs reading glasses” club and it’s super handy to hang the arm of my glasses from the bandoleer! I’ve found it’s the perfect place to stash them where they won’t get crushed and I can still grab my specs quickly.

What typically do you wear with your STK?
To me, there is nothing that makes me feel more fiercely feminine and powerfully sexy than a kilt topped with a laced corset. In cold weather a great pair of tall boots is the perfect accessory with my STK, and topped with a cropped jacket you really can’t go wrong!

Where do you wear your STK?
Anywhere and everywhere! Layered with leggings, it’s perfect for professional meetings or in-class lectures. I’ve worn my STK hiking, hunting, and everything in between—from yoga on the steps of a Swiss castle to clamoring up a wind-swept dune along the ocean, there is nothing my STK can’t handle!

INTERVIEW WITH TOREN - AKA RedHeadedYeti

Where do you live?
Toren - I have lived in Portland for the past 17 years but recently moved to Corvallis to finish a Spanish Degree.   Angelica and I are moving to Scotland in August so she can finish her PhD and I can do A masters degree in Hispanic research.

What do you do for work?
Toren - This is one of those questions that I never answer. I normally say that it is a boring question and not many people like their job. But for some strange reason in the US we are always asking what people do for work and not what they do for fun so….on to the next question (but I am a musician - find me on Spotify if you like RedHeadedYeti).

More importantly, what do you do for fun?
Toren - YES!!!! I love to climb mountains and am a mountaineer; however, I love all sorts of activities such as: kayaking, surfing, cycling, travel, cooking, and playing music.

What are your hobbies?
Toren - Hobbies are similar to what I do for fun and how I live my life. IDK? I’ve built instruments such as guitars and violins, painting, poetry, writing, sculpture, anything related to art. We have also been known to dominate people in a game of Magic (Magic the Gathering).

Do you have any special talents?
Toren - I can whistle really well...hahaha. But seriously, I can shred on electric guitar and still play the soft blues. I can build almost anything and have taught myself most everything I know how to do. Hmmm...I never think of these things, I just do them.

How did you come to know STK?
Toren - I saw a guy wearing one and asked him where he got it from. I was a fan ever since. One of the best kilts I have ever owned.

What is your favorite event STK hosts or vends?
Toren - I have not been to any events that I can recall where we were there at the same time.

What is the Favorite Feature on your STK?
Toren - I like the stash pocket most of all. It has been the best part when trying to surreptitiously sneak things into concerts...ahhh...pre pandemic life, how do I miss thee.

How many Kilts do you own?
Toren - This is almost like asking someone what is under the kilt. I would say that I do not own any kilts and that they own me.

What is your favorite Kilt color?
Toren - I like the pinstripe the most but I tend to wear neutral colors most of the time anyway. Black is my favorite kilt color but I wish you guys had some tartan designs to choose from (or did custom gore tex kilt orders for climbing and hiking).

What secret thing do you put in your hidden pocket?
Toren - Well, that’s a secret, right? What do you put in yours? (Years ago it was good ol whiskey).

What do you carry on your bandoleer (other than attachable pockets)?
Toren - It depends on the adventure. Sometimes a knife but that is obvious. I regularly clip my keys with a carabiner but I do not like too many things dangling, I HATE DANGLING...

What typically do you wear with your STK?
Toren - Sandals look funny with a kilt so I always wear boots (which is the answer to what is under my kilt). However, sometimes I wear a vest if I am going somewhere formal but normally a wool shirt. I do not usually wear T-shirts with my kilt.

Where do you wear your STK?
Toren - EVERYWHERE!!! (Except Scotland, Kilts are banned in Scotland).

INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTOPHER GULLICK

The KiltedOG - "The Gullick" pose

Where do you live?
We currently reside in Sunnyside, Washington, the heart of the Yakima Valley!

What do you do for work?
I work in a Fortune 500 company “Contact Center” as a Quality Monitoring specialist!

More importantly, what do you do for fun?
Oh, I love to explore the great Pacific Northwest (kilted of course).

I love flying , in both Airplanes and Hot Air Balloons, there’s just something so relaxing and exhilarating about floating on the wind in a Hot Air Balloon hundred if not thousands of feet in the air!

I started my own “clan”, (the “ClanGullick”) that’s been so much fun! I started it after seeing so many Facebook/IG groups where those wearing kilts are so serious all the time and I was like, nope, it wearing a kilt is about breaking traditions and having a ton of fun in the “swish life”. I even have a kilted pose that has some wide spread across quite a few groups. I came up with it as the “anti kilt pose” of standing in a very stoic position with arms crossed and not smiling, I was like , that’s just not me! So I did the whole “goal/touchdown” pose with jazz hands that’s now affectionately known as “The Gullick” (it’s somewhat derived from when a football referee signals a touchdown)! I’m hoping to have actual in person clan meet ups as Highland Games/Festivals start opening up!

I’m a big live theater fan, so I love to see live shows whenever I can!

What are your hobbies?
Does playing Candy Crush count as a hobby?

Driving my bright orange truck around with the windows rolled down, blaring my favorite bands! I mean, sharing is caring right? RIGHT!

I do have a “unique” hobby of collecting Christmas “Ornaments”, currently we have over 150 merman ornaments and about 200 clown ornaments.

Getting men out of there pants!! (And get them in kilts)

Do you have any special talents?
Does threatening people with glitter grenades count as a “talent”?

How did you come to know STK?
I first learned of STK though “OffKilter Kilts”! It’s been about 5 years now, when I purchased the burnt orange color kilt! I’ve been hooked from that point on and even have made a few visits to the old location of STK!

What is your favorite event STK hosts or vends?
Oh, that’s a tough one, I love seeing STK at the pride and fetish events! (I’m hoping to talk y’all into coming to Prosser for the Highland Games.... hint hint hint)

What is the Favorite Feature on your STK?
My favorite feature is a tie: the flexibility of the sizing, and the hidden “sporran”/pocket! Fun fact, it took me a year to realize that pocket was there!

How many Kilts do you own?
All together, 38 plus 4 on order, that includes 10 from STK! (This number includes utility style and traditional tartan Kilts)

What is your favorite Kilt color?
Oh, that’s like Sophie’s choice isn’t it??! Why do you think I have all the colors of the rainbow from STK! It really depends on my mood what color is my favorite for that day!

Does “camo” count as a color? If so, then that my favorite color!

What secret thing do you put in your hidden pocket?
Nothing anymore, I used to put my keys and my wallet in that pocket, but, I’d forget they where in there and spend hours looking for my keys and wallet the next day! However if it’s a windy day I’ll put my wallet in the hidden pocket to help keep the kilt down!

What do you carry on your bandoleer (other than attachable pockets)?
Glitter grenades!!

What typically do you wear with your STK?
Everything!

For footwear I have extremes, it’s either my 20 eye steel toe boots (color of the boot to match the color of kilt for that day) or my minimalist “Vibram” toe shoes.

Usually I’ll wear a t-shirt or hoodies with my Kilts, as I’m trying to break the “you have to be super formal” to wear a kilt stereotypes!

Where do you wear your STK?
Everywhere!! From eating out to theatre to flying to hiking to having fun at amusement parks!

I’m also really lucky that I can wear kilts to work!

(I have only worn pants 9 days in the last 5 years, each April 1st, it’s my running April Fools joke and on Halloween!)

What new Kilt so want to see from STK?
A leather kilt (maybe in partnership with Langlitz Leathers) and a “rainbow“ kilt with the underpleats different colors of the rainbow!
